Ukrainian–English and Russian–English interpreting for clinics
Make room for a clear clinical conversation.
For clinics and coordinators arranging care for Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking patients. Discuss the appointment, format and preparation before booking.
Fit interpreting into the appointment plan
You may be coordinating a first consultation, a hospital visit or a follow-up involving several people. Identify the appointment type, clinician or team, location and expected duration so the scope and preparation can be discussed. Confirm whether the interpreter will attend on site or join remotely.
Name a booking contact who can agree the quote, attendance and any changes. Plan time for both languages and any briefing. Send practical details first; patient names, referral letters and clinical records should follow only if needed through an agreed channel.
- Consultations arranged by private clinics and practice teams
- Hospital appointments and follow-up visits, subject to booking arrangements
- Video or telephone appointments where the clinical team accepts the format
Working within NHS booking arrangements
NHS providers should make interpreting available free to patients at the point of delivery. Staff should follow their organisation’s booking process. A direct enquiry here does not replace that process or establish an NHS contract.
Agree the assignment before confirming attendance
Availability and suitability are reviewed against the brief. Agree preparation, duration, fees, travel and cancellation terms in writing. The enquiry receipt does not reserve an appointment. A booking is confirmed after written acceptance; any required patient information is shared through an agreed channel.
Questions
Can we request interpreting for several appointments?
Send the proposed dates, locations and durations. Availability and terms must be agreed for each assignment; repeat attendance is not assumed.
What should the clinical team prepare?
Explain the appointment format and any terminology or briefing needs. Confirm how the interpreter will join and who will handle changes. Discuss sensitive material through an agreed channel.
Are you a patient or family member?
Use the patient appointment page to check the NHS route and the details needed for a private enquiry. Both pages lead to the same medical enquiry form.
